For centuries, various herbs and spices have been promoted as healers for the body. For instance, in Traditional Chinese medicine, herbs comprise the majority of treatments. Through thousands of years of use, medicinal substances have been identified and categorized to treat digestive and other common disorders. Despite the fact that many prescription drugs are fashioned after naturally occurring herbs, limited western research has been done on their efficacy when used alone or in combination for specific digestive issues and problems.

Traditional Chinese Medicine however has been using herbal therapy for digestion issues and problems for many thousands of years. Within Traditional Chinese Medicine, the uses and effects of these herbs and foods are well researched and documented, existing within a solid body of theory and clinical practice, both modern and extending backwards in time over the centuries. In her presentation, Bernadette will present an overview of Chinese Medicated Diet Principles and Chinese Medicine Theory on how and what to eat to prevent and correct many common digestive issues
